62% of Baby Boomers say they will work past 651. But even if you plan to work past 65 – the age at which you become Medicare-eligible – here are some important facts to consider.

1.

What You Don’t Know Can Cost You

If you plan to work past 65, and you have coverage through an employer, or a spouse’s or partner’s plan, calculate the differences between your coverage options to avoid paying more than you need for quality services.

2.

Time When You Sign Up

Apply for Medicare a few months before you end employment so that your coverage will be in place on the first month of your retirement.

3.

Don’t Get Stuck with Two Plans

If you enroll in Social Security before turning 65, you are enrolled automatically in Medicare (Parts A and B), which means that if you’re still covered by an employer’s plan, you might be paying for two health plans!

No Social Security? No Worries!

If you roll past 65 and stay active with your employer and don’t enroll in Social Security, your Medicare benefit won’t be automatically activated.
